Nel Regno del Musical e del Teatro, le trombe suonano e i riflettori si accendono: le nomination ai Drama League Awards 2025 sono ufficialmente state svelate! L’annuncio è avvenuto il 22 aprile presso la New York Public Library for the Performing Arts al Lincoln Center, letto da due voci d’eccezione: Sarah Hyland, protagonista del musical di The Great Gatsby, e Orville Peck, acclamato nel revival di Cabaret.
La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà il 16 maggio presso lo scintillante Ziegfeld Ballroom, con un evento aperto al pubblico che promette eleganza, emozione e grandi celebrazioni. I Drama League Awards sono tra i più antichi riconoscimenti teatrali americani: nati nel 1922 e ufficializzati nel 1935, rappresentano oggi un punto di riferimento per tutto il panorama di Broadway e Off-Broadway, premiando l’eccellenza tra spettacoli e interpreti.
La selezione, come da tradizione, è concentrata in poche ma significative categorie: Miglior Spettacolo di Prosa, Miglior Revival di Prosa, Miglior Musical, Miglior Revival di Musical, Miglior Regia di Prosa, Miglior Regia di Musical e il prestigioso premio per la Migliore Interpretazione individuale. Quest’ultimo, unico nel suo genere, può essere assegnato a un attore o attrice solo una volta nella carriera, rendendolo un riconoscimento raro e profondamente simbolico.
Tra i candidati al premio come Miglior Spettacolo di Prosa troviamo titoli di grande impatto come The Picture of Dorian Gray, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Oh, Mary!, John Proctor is the Villain e Here There Are Blueberries. Sul fronte musicale, la battaglia è serrata tra produzioni attesissime come Smash, Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, Death Becomes Her, Just in Time, BOOP! The Musical e Dead Outlaw, senza dimenticare Buena Vista Social Club, Maybe Happy Ending e Real Women Have Curves.
In linea con il regolamento, le opere che sono passate da Off-Broadway a Broadway mantenendo in gran parte il team creativo e l’impostazione originaria sono state comunque considerate eleggibili, come nel caso di Dead Outlaw, English, Buena Vista Social Club e Oh, Mary!.
I Drama League Awards sono assegnati dall’omonima organizzazione senza scopo di lucro, che da oltre un secolo sostiene artisti e registi teatrali offrendo un raro spazio creativo stabile e duraturo negli Stati Uniti.
